Lords: Assassins Version 1.5 |
Some calculations and numbers in this tutorial can be outdated, the general mechanics are correct. Check Help/calculations for details.
Goal The goal in Lords is to become king.
The form to get crowned and named king is by gaining as much score as possible to win the game.
Your score is affected by glory, palace size, number of technologies and troops experience.
The score is calculated like this: (Glory/ 10 + Experience / 3) * (Palace + Technologies)
Glory: There are various ways of gaining glory.
One way is to successfully attack another lord.
If you attack a lord weaker than you and you win, you will receive 2 glory, if the same happens, but instead you attack a lord that is in a higher rank than you, you will receive 4 glory instead of 2.
Other way is being attacked. If you are attacked and you win the battle, you will receive 1 glory.
You can also receive glory by using the correspondent law. But also you can loose glory, this will happen when you betray your sovereign, in other words, when you leave your sovereign for another one, this reduces drastically your glory.
See law section for more information.
Palace: Your palace also affects your score, the bigger your palace is, the bigger your score is.
Also the greater your palace size is, the more efficient the tax collection is (+2 for each palace size), and also for each 2 palace sizes you will receive 1 more merchant.
The palace will also grant you a +20 % leadership bonus while you are in a battle and your enemy has a smaller palace than yours.
Technologies: The technologies are upgrades that can be bought in the “Technologies” section.
Before buying a technology, it is necessary to buy a university, there are 6 universities total.
Each university you buy will give you a certain number of technologies.
You must be wise while choosing which technology to buy, since the technologies prices rise drastically after buying a technology.
But also there are various ways to lower the prices of the technologies, one is buying libraries, you can buy a maximum of 5 libraries for each university you have.
The other way to lower the technologies prices is to buy certain technologies that lower their price.
Experience: This consists on how much experience your troops have.
To raise the experience, select the army button, and press military training.
Also in the button a (cost x) will be shown where “X” is the price in gold for the training.
If you have enough gold available, click on the button and 1 point of experience will be added.
Also each time you run a military exercise, your attack and defence will be raised.
Each time you run a military exercise, the price of the next exercise will be raised.
Time
After every hour you will be granted with:
-
Turns: The turns allow you to move your troops to attack an enemy lord.
The numbers of turns are displayed in the centre upper part of the screen.
If you do not have turns, you will be unable to attack an enemy lord.
- Gold: Each hour your population will be taxed.
The tax income will be affected by your palace size, the number of population you have, and the number of mills that are acquired.
Also certain technologies will grant you a mayor tax income when acquired.
See buildings section for more information about mills.
After each day passes, you will obtain:
- Population: Every day (24 hours) that pass, a certain number of people will arrive to your kingdom. The population received each day is affected by the overcrowding. The overcrowding is a inevitable action of the game, and not affects new players with small populations. It only affects the players with a high population, and while the population goes greater, also the overcrowding; however there are certain technologies that can reduce this action, but not eliminate it.
- Diamonds: If the player has arranged trades with other lords, has an active sovereign and vassals, he will receive a certain number of diamonds. To determine how many diamonds a lord receives at the beginning of each day, economy points are used for each 10 economy points that are acquired at the end of the day, 1 diamond is granted to the lord. To receive economy points by trading, you need to buy merchants. There are two ways to acquire merchants, one is to buy markets, at the buildings section, and other is to buy palace upgrades. Also there are certain technologies that add merchants to your realm. The more merchants you and your trade partner have, the more economy points are received. To receive economy points with a sovereign, you must select another player as your sovereign; it is recommended to select someone you can trust. If the player has been active (if he has logged on that day) you will receive 10 economy points. If someone selects you as his sovereign, he becomes your vassal, if your vassal has been active, you will receive 5 economy points.
War

Here will be explained some facts of interest while you are attacking another lord or are defending your own castle by the enemy lords.
At a battle, these two facts are essential for victory, the influence of attack and defence in a battle will be explained later.
Leadership bonus – The leadership bonus will affect a battle in this way: If your palace is in a larger size than your opponent is, you will receive a certain percentage of leadership bonus, it is also affected by the number of generals that have been trained.
Fortification bonus – When you are being attacked, the enemy will use battering rams if he has buyed battering rams to tear down your walls. So, if you have more walls than the enemy battering rams, you will be granted with a bonus that can help you to win the battle. See buildings section for more information about walls and battering rams.
Economy
An effective economy in Lords is very useful. This way you can save diamonds for then make investments on your palace size, training soldiers for your defence, buying mills and so on. As explained above, for each 10 economy points you will receive one diamond.
Trade
Trading is simple, if merchants are available for your cause, you can offer trade agreements with other lords. The traders then will sell and buy, but you, being the lord, it doesn’t concern you. Then you will receive a profit for what has been sold and it will be counted as economy points. You have space to make trades up to 6 fellow lords, so choose wisely who you are going to offer trades. It is highly recommendable to buy at each amount of time markets, at the buildings section, to hire more merchants. This way you will receive more economy points, and also be more likely to receive trade offers.
Gifts
Each day you receive 2 gifts which you can grant to any lord. A lord who receives a gift also gets some benefits (gold, economy points, and if he receives many gifts, additional population) since it is a sign of friendship, the lord who receives the gift can not attack the lord who sent the gift for the reminder of the game, although there is a certain technology that eliminates the policy, allowing you to attack someone who sends you a gift. It also can be given as a tribute to fellow lords.
Sovereign
The sovereign is a fellow lord who you select as your sovereign, but is has to be a very hard decision to make since you can have only one sovereign and if you betray him (or her), you will loose glory and palace sizes. Sovereigns will give you 10 economy points (1 diamond) each day if he (or her) has logged in the current day. You, being the vassal, you do not need to do anything for your sovereign. If a sovereign does not log in, his vassals will not receive the economy points. To find a good sovereign, these facts will be helpful:
It is recommended to be someone you can trust, to avoid being attacked by your sovereign.
It is also recommended to be someone active, since an inactive sovereign will not grant you the diamonds you are seeking.
Vassals: If another lord selects you as his sovereign, he will become your vassal. You, being the sovereign, you do not have to do anything for your vassal(s). Although it is nice to gift the vassals some times, since it is a way to show that you are grateful for having him as your vassal. Although you can only have one sovereign, you can have multiple vassal, all the vassals you can get. Like in the sovereign’s case, each time your vassal is active (logs in the current day), you will receive 2 economy points. A very important fact to find good vassals is:
- Find someone that is active to be your vassal, that way you will be sure to get the 5 economy points.
Here is an explanation to each section of the game:
Main:
This is where you start when you log in. It shows the news if there are any in the upper centre part, below your status bar. It also shows new referent to your realm. Some messages will be: “New history (someone attacked you)”, “”You have a new private message”, and so on. Also the bank is displayed in this window. The bank is where you can buy and sell diamonds. Diamonds can not be stolen by an invading army, so you can keep safe and secure your diamonds here. Each diamond costs 550 gold coins, and to sell one, it costs 500 gold coins. It’s a sacrifice of 50 gold coins, but it’s worth it. The bank can come in handy when you need to buy expensive objects such as universities since you can have it safe in the bank and not in a vulnerable place.
Attack:
This section shows an entire list of all the lords in the kingdom. Here you can find a lord and arrange trades, send him a message inviting him to be your vassal, select him as your sovereign, send gifts, and, the most important, attack. Attacking is the main way of obtaining gold. To the left of the lords’ name in the list, two things will be shown, the number of gold he has, and the score he has. It is highly recommendable for you to attack lords that are at a similar rank than you are, or slightly lower than you, or, if you dare, someone in a slightly higher rank than you. To win a battle, you must have a higher attack than the defence of your foe. See army section for more information. Other factors that influence in the battle are the palace size, generals that are trained, and the numbers of battering rams you have constructed. When a battle has won, you will receive gold, which has been stolen from your enemy lord, and glory, for attacking and winning a battle. If you attack a lord lower than your rank, you will receive +2 glory, but if you attack a lord that is in a higher rank than you, you will receive +4 glory. If you attack someone in a really distant rank than you, the gold stolen by your troops will be reduced, since you will be attacking a weak opponent. Also be cautious by attacking a Lord in a higher rank than you, since he is stronger and may hold your attack. If you do not succeed at an attack, you will receive no gold or glory, but the defender will receive +1 glory by defending his kingdom from the enemies. When you click on a lord’s name, this will be shown: on the upper left part will be shown sentences as “your vassal” “your sovereign”, “your faction member”, and so on. To the upper centre part the lord’s name will be shown and the name of the faction he belongs to, if he is a member of a faction. And to the upper right part these images will be shown: A shield, this means that the lord is in the top 100 ranks of the kingdom. A throne, meaning that player is the king (rank #1). A white pigeon, which means you, must be on peace with that member, since he is a member of your faction, or he is your vassal or sovereign. And a castle, showing in an inaccurate way the size of the palace of that lord. This image will grow each time you buy some palace upgrades. When you are at the main list, sometimes a * or a + will be shown to the side of the lord, indicating that he has logged in that day if a * is on a side of him, and a + if he has entered his realm (logged in) 3 days ago.
History:
Here two important facts are shown, the lords that have attacked you, and the lords you have attacked. From let to right, this will be shown: The name of the lord who has attacked you or you have attacked, the gold that was stolen by you or the lord who attacked you, and the glory you have won if you succeed on the battle, if you are being attacked, and you win the battle, also a +1 will show in the bar, indicating a plus 1 glory for winning the battle. A nice tip to better use this section is before you attack anyone, check who have been attacking you, then take revenge of those lords who are trying to cripple your attempt to be king. Of course, be careful when you choose who to attack, they may be stronger than you.
Army:
To a majority of Lords around the kingdom this is one of the most important sections of the game, because here you can manage everything of your army, except constructing battering rams, walls and barracks. Here you can see your army’s attack potential and defence potential. Here you can train troops, train generals, realize military exercise, see the bonus the barracks are providing, see the Leadership bonus generals are providing and of how many men your army consists of. There are 6 kinds of troops: The pike men, knights, archers, swordsmen, crossbowmen* and heavy swordsmen*. There is also a special unit called mercenary, but we will not explain much of it, since it is a unit that can not be trained, and is only available to new players, each day one mercenary will leave the lord, so you have to make official troops quick. Your attack and defence is displayed in this section. Each troop you train will provide certain points in numbers to either attack, defence or both. Also, if you want to increase the attack and defence of your army, you can build barracks, the more barracks you have, the more effective they will be. To have your barracks at a 100% (this means, it increases your attack and defence for 100%), you must have the same numbers of units and barracks, so, for each unit you train, you must build one more barrack to have it at a 100% again. Also, training your troops will also increase your attack and defence by a bit, so, training troops is recommendable. There are also technologies available that increase your attack and defence. It also is recommendable to have your army at its maximum size, which will be the number of population you have, also it is recommendable to have the barracks at a 100%, to have an effective attack and defence.
*The troops with this asterisk require a technology to be buyed before you train them.
Here will be showed the attack or defence each troop will provide as you train them:
Pikeman - attack 1, defence 1
Knight - attack 6, defence 6 (You can't have more knights than your palace size).
Swordsman - attack 2, defence 0
Archer - attack 0, defence 2
Heavy swordsman - attack 3, defence 0
Crossbowman - attack 0, defence 3
Buildings:
Three important sections of your kingdom will be showed here: The palace size and how to build a better palace, the military buildings such as battering rams, walls and barracks, how many you possess and how to build more, and the civilian buildings.
Palace:
The palace is very important on the game, it grants you a 20% leadership bonus, if your palace size is greater than your enemy’s palace at battle, it also influences in your score, in your tax collection, and, each two palace sizes, you will be granted with one extra merchant.
Battering rams:
These make a great influence in battle. It is recommendable to buy some once in a while, since these will be able to grant you a fortification bonus. Of course, not always the fortification bonus will be granted. You must have more battering rams than the number of walls of the lord you are attacking. So, it is important to buy battering rams once in a while.
Walls:
The walls are also essential on battle. Not when you’re attacking, they come in use when another lord is attacking you. They will grant a fortification bonus only if you have a more number of walls than the number of battering rams of your enemy. So, it also is recommended to buy walls once in a while.
Barracks:
The barracks will grant you an extra attack and defence when you train troops. The effectivity of the barracks is shown in the attack section. To have the barracks at a 100%, there must be the same number of barracks as you total number of soldiers. Buying more barracks than your total army size will not do anything, but it may be a way to spend money, you can buy a barrack before you train a troop to have it directly at a 100%, and you do not have to buy it later.
Universities:
The universities are structures that, when built, they will give you a certain number of technologies for you to later purchase. The cost of the universities at the beginning will be rather cheap, but each time you buy a university, the cost will drastically increase. There are a total of 6 universities.
Libraries:
Also the cost of the libraries will rise each time you build one, but not as dramatically as the university. Each time you build a library, it will reduce the cost of the technologies by a 1%. For each university you build, you can build up to 5 libraries.
Market:
The cost of the market will also increase each time you build one. Each time you buy a market, you will be granted with a certain number of merchants for you to trade with fellow lords. You can be able to buy up to 10 markets, once you reach the maximum of 10 markets; you can not buy more markets, making the merchants production slower.
Mill:
The cost of each mill will not increase when you build one. The mills will give you a more effective tax collection for each one you buy. You are able to have one mill for each ten people you have in your kingdom.
Technologies:
This is a simple section of the game: Here will be shown the technologies you have available to buy, in the lower part; a list will show the technologies you have bought. To the right of the list of the technologies that are available to buy, the number of universities and libraries will be shown. The technologies available to buy are shown with a description showing what the technology will do if you buy it. Each time you buy a technology, the price rises in high numbers, so you must be very wise while you choose which technology you buy next, since once you buy it, the price of the next one will rise drastically.
Law:
The laws are bonuses for you to choose once a day. A random selection of laws three will be chosen for you automatically to choose which one you will use. It must be a wise decision since you can use one law a day. The action the law will do is showed to the right of the law. There are laws that can give you population, laws that can train your units for free, and laws that can give you another turn for attacking a lord, and so on. Also the “pillory” section will be shown here. Each time a lord that has been cheating has been found, it will be informed here also what kind of punishment will be used against the cheater. So play clean.
Vassals:
This section not only show your vassals, it shows the faction of which you are member of, how many points it has, and how many members are there. The name of your sovereign if available, if you have one, and the option to betray him (or her), this option is very dangerous if chosen, since you will be reduced in a great number your glory, and the palace size, although there is a certain technology that can avoid the loss of the palace size, although you will still loose the glory. Be careful. The names of the vassals you have, if you have any, will be shown in the lowest part, and if there is a * to the right of the lords’ name, it means they have been active that day, if instead the + shows, it means that lord has logged in at least the past 3 days. If nothing appears, the vassal has not entered his kingdom for days. It is recommendable to choose loyal people that you are sure they will log in, that way you will be sure you will receive the economy points. The same rule goes when you choose a sovereign, it must be a lord you know he enters daily the game. As explained earlier, if your sovereign logs in, you will revive 10 economy points that day, if your vassal logs in that day, you will receive 5 economy points that day.
Gifts:
Gifting fellow lords is a way to show gratitude or tribute to him. Each day you will be granted with two gifts to give to anyone you want. It’s recommendable of course to give it to lords you know and he is a friend of yours. In the section, two sections will appear. The name of the lords that have sent you gifts, and the lords you have sent gifts to. To the side of this, the number of days ago you have received or sent that gift. It’s also recommendable to send gifts to your vassals, if you have any, sovereign, or lords you are trading with.
Factions:
Here, a complete list of all the factions of the game will be shown. The factions are showed by rank, from the faction number one, to the faction in last place. To the right of the factions’ name the score it has will be shown, and the number of influence. Influence is gained each time you vote for lords, in the vote section. If you are a member of a faction, and you vote for lords, you will provide +1 influence. Influence doesn’t do much. When you reach a certain number of influences, that faction is allowed to show a public description to encourage them to enter the faction. Once you enter the faction, the names of the faction members will be shown. Here too, they will be shown from the best lord in score to the lowest lord in score. To the right the rank of the faction member in the faction will be shown. When you have a certain rank, they will give you privileges, so, if you join a faction, show yourself loyal to get a high rank. To join a faction, click on the faction you want to join, and click on the “join faction” button on the lower part of the screen. There, your rank will be pending until a high rank member of the faction gives you a rank. You can also create your own faction, by leaving a faction, if you are part of one, and in the main page of the “factions” section, a “create faction” button will appear.
Inn:
The inn is a place where you can talk with other lords by chatting. There are various rooms in the inn, one room is made for normal talk, talk about the game experiences, and so on, the second room is made for trade agreements, here you can chat with other lords to arrange trades if you want. The third room is made for faction messages. If you want people to join your faction, you can say something here and may be heard. There is a fourth room, but it is designed for the same purpose as the first room, except this is made for those shy lords who need to talk in smaller numbers.
Here will be mentioned the areas and links that are not part of the game:
Forum:
This link will lead you to the official lords’ forum, as in the inn; there are various sections in the forum. Here you can talk about your strategies in the game, what has happened in your realm recently, offer trades, vassalship, or just talk about any topic you want with fellow lords. This place is a nice way to get to know lords from all over the kingdom.
Vote:
When you enter this section, various links will be shown for you to choose. These links will take you to pages where you can vote for this game, helping it to reach number one in the ranks. Voting will not only provide benefits for the game; it will also provide benefits for your faction, giving it a +1 influence each time you vote. You are allowed to vote once for each day, and it is recommended to do so.
Help:
The help section provides various articles that may help you to know more about the game. It contains this manual, and some frequently asked questions (FAQs). It is recommended to the lords that are new to the game to read it to know more about the game and think on an efficient strategy before taking on the game. Also the terms of service and policy will appear here.
Feedback:
If you enter this part, automatically three message boxes will appear where you can talk with various helpers of the game. The first box is where you can send messages to the administrator giving suggestions, comments or bug reports. In the second box you can send a message to an inquisitor reporting lords that have not been playing clean (cheating). The third message box will be sent to a helper, where you can report language abuses and spam in any game section.
Preferences:
The preferences has four options, the first one is the right side box. This box shows various things: a community box, that is the box where other forums, besides the official, are shown here with a link for you to see it. Here you also can talk with other lords. In the upper part of the box is shown the factions with high influence. The other box is the supporter box, where a list of the supporters of the game will be shown. The next part is the gfx set, the game provides various sets for you to choose, and these will replace the original images for the selected ones. If you select “gallery”, some images of the set will appear, for you to choose which one you will use. The next part is the delete account, where you can delete your account if you want. The last part is where you can change your password to a safer one, you must type your old password, later the new password and type again the password to be sure you have remembered it.
Logout:
This section is very simple, by clicking on it, you will be logged out of your realm, to avoid any other lords to enter your kingdom, and have a look at everything you have.
Strategy tips

- Arrange trade agreements with as much players as possible in the very beginning. Trade affects your treasury greatly; gains from it may be much greater than from invasions during the first days of play.
- Choose someone as your sovereign from the beginning; it's better to have a poor sovereign than any.
- Train knights as your first units, they will provide an even attack and defence for a clean start.
- It's very useful to have battering rams and walls, so buy some once in a while.
- Choose technologies carefully, soon these will be very expensive and you can't undo your decisions.
- Before you logout turn all remaining gold into diamonds to prevent it from being stolen or spend it in a palace upgrade, walls, battering rams, train units, etc.
-You must think on a strategy when you start playing. You can train a lot of defensive units to prevent gold getting stealed, or be careful and have an offensive army to steal gold of everyone.
-Buying barracks is a priority; try to keep it as a 100%.
